Full program description
The Poultry Meat Production Certificate is comprised of four courses: General Avian Science, Poultry Meat Production, Breeder and Hatchery Management, and Animal Waste Management. By completing all four courses, students will be able to understand the history and structure of the poultry industry from its humble beginnings to today's modern commercial industry. Students will be able to discuss the complexities of animal well-being and management, from environmental control to human relationships. Students will also be able to describe the differences in rearing poultry for breeding versus human consumption, as well as husbandry practices unique to male and female breeding birds. In addition, hatching egg quality and incubation and chick quality will be discussed. Finally, students will gain a deeper understanding of the role of poultry waste in nutrient cycling and environmental management and the regulations governing poultry waste.
Students will engage with course content through lecture videos and quizzes or exams based on lecture content. Each course is separated into modules for a logical progression through the course content. Students may complete each course at their own pace. Upon completion of all four courses students will receive a Certificate of Completion.
